Using Steam to Purchase Games

Digital distribution companies like Steam are a blessing and a curse for geeks, according to an article at the Geekery Online. Steam is a digital distribution giant with over a thousand games in their catalog. Rather than going to the store to get your games, more and more mainstream publishers are allowing customers to purchase their games through the Steam application and then download the game to the customer’s computer. For new games, customers can pre-order the game and when it releases, they can download the game while away at work and when they come home they are ready to go.
Steam also offers some amazing deals on their games. Over December, they had a 30 day sales where hundreds of games were 30-75% off. Since it takes only a couple of clicks to buy the game, it made December a dangerous time of year as there were so many cool games, many for under $10.
I started using Steam about a year ago, and the biggest advantage for me is that once I purchase the game Steam associates the game to my account, which means even if my harddrive crashes, I don’t have to find my old game disks. I can just download them again. Even if you are not a geek, Steam offers game players some incredible convenience and value.
