Some night bass fisherman will disagree with me here, but that’s ok because every bass fisherman has his own methods of catch bass at night. If you can get bait fish swimming around near your boat and you are in known bass habitat waters you have a good chance of catching some nice fish when bass fishing at night.

It is no secret that submerged fishing lighting attracts plankton that is a scientific fact. Small bait fish feed mostly on plankton as a food source. And when you can get a concentration of plankton going bait fish will come by the hundreds. If you want to catch bass at night then you need to be able to lure a lot of bait fish into your immediate fish area. Just remember that submerged fishing lights absolutely are useful in attracting plankton which will attract plankton, which will bring in the game fish such as bass to your night fishing location. When you see that bait ball swirling around your underwater fishing light you start to get excited! Just throw your line close to your light and just wait for that first largemouth bass to hit your bait! Just a note, do not pack up and leave your first night fishing location because you do not get any hits in the first hour. The bass’s eyes take about an hour to adjust to the dark and during that time the fish will sit tight until their eyes adjust to the dark.
Live Baits to use For Bass Fishing At Night
I am very surprised that more fisherman do not use live baits to catch bass. if you are just starting out in bass fishing and you do not have a lot of money then fishing for bass with live baits may be the way to go for you. You do not need and expensive bass fishing rod and reels and tackle a solid medium rod and middle of the pack reel will do just fine. All you need for tackle is any of the standard live bait fishing rigs which are inexpensive to make. You will find that you wont get a lot of competition from other bass anglers with live baits because few use them.| I am going to give you a couple tips on two live baits that I have had great luck with catching bass.
If you plan on going fishing during the day our you are looking at a bass fishing at night trip you will want to take golden or striped shiners as a live bait selection. The golden shiner which is sometimes called the striped shiner should be no smaller then 3 inches. Shiners caught in the wild where you plan to fish work best, but if you can purchase them from a local bait shop they will work fine too.
The golden shiner is much more common in the Eastern States but can be found in the southern, Midwest and Northern States also. The Golden Shiner can grow quite large up to 12 inches in length, but the most common sizes you will find will be between 3 to 6 inches in length, and this will be the size you find in most bait shops The body is laterally compressed (deep-bodied). The back is dark green or olive, and the belly is a silvery white. The sides are silver in smaller individuals, but golden in larger ones. There can be a faint dusky stripe along the sides. The anal fin is large and has 8-19 rays, while the dorsal fin comprises almost always 8 rays.
The golden shiner may be one of the most common and always a great live bait when you want to go bass fishing at night but there other great live baits that work fine on bass also.
